ECSA-HC’s regional Ebola Preparedness and Response plan for 10 countries

The East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) is implementing a six-month intervention to evert possible cross-border transmission of the Bundibugyo Virus from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where an outbreak of the disease has raised the risk for high-volume trade and mobility routes connecting DRC with 16 major trade corridors.  Over 30 high risk Points of Entry are targeted for preparedness & response interventions, set to benefit Zambia, DRC, Rwanda, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Angola, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Funded by the World Bank under the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Program (HEPRRP), the Starting from Zambia-DRC, the technical teams from ECSA-HC went on the ground strengthening the capacity of African countries to detect, track and prevent Ebola outbreaks at Points of Entry and they started from the Zambia with DRC borders, involving health authorities from both countries: national, provincial and district health teams and other stakeholders to equip them with real-time digital surveillance, safe isolation protocols, rapid laboratory transport networks, and cross-border notification systems.
