Member States

The Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation cluster is responsible for monitoring progress towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Health Ministers Resolutions within the East, Central and Southern Africa region. The KMME cluster is also responsible for ensuring perspectives, ideas, experiences and information are shared widely. To enable informed decisions and improve efficiency in health programme planning, this cluster ensures that information is readily available at the right time and place.

Cluster Objectives

  • To monitor progress towards SDGs and other global and Regional commitments
  • To carry out programme and project evaluations for accountability
  • To provide an enabling environment for sharing of best practices, perspectives, new innovations and information
  • To build and strengthen capacity of member states to collect, synthesize and share information
  • To strengthen the development of evidence based policies and programmes in Member states and in the ECSA region.

ECSA-HC supports its member states on health systems strengthening, Disease prevention and control as well as monitoring and reporting. The Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation (KMME) Cluster at the ECSA-HC supports in the following;

Support to Clusters and projects

With three other clusters supporting countries on health initiatives, the KMME cluster ensures that monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects and activities within ECSA-HC is carried out through generation of reports for the programmes and projects.

Monitoring of Global and Regional Commitments

Appreciating the fact that all our member states have committed to the SDGs and the Health Ministers’ resolutions, the KMME cluster ensures availability of information on progress made towards the SDGs, the HMC resolutions as well as other global and regional commitments.

This is done through preparation of the “State of Health” Report which is produced biennially and disseminated to member states and partners. On adhoc basis, the cluster also prepares reports as per the need to show case progress on health interventions. These reports are also shared with the Health Ministries and partners.

Information exchange

ECSA-HC through the KMME cluster hosts the eminent “Best Practices Forum” (BPF) to facilitate learning and sharing of health information and new innovations.

This event is held annually and brings together partners, stakeholders, decision makers and implementers in health from all over the world. As the regional information hub, ECSA-HC through this cluster offers an opportunity to countries in the region to share upcoming health events, research findings, documented best practices, tools, and any other relevant information on the ECSA-HC website. This is to facilitate for wider-reach.

There are several on-line information sharing platforms through the ECSA-HC website and are open to everyone wishing to join or facilitate discussions on emerging/re-emerging health issues. All links can be found on this website: www.ecsahc.org on the front page under “online portals”.

Capacity Strengthening

Through our projects, ECSA-HC has formed Communities of Practice (COPs). This again facilities peer learning. COPs formed are for experts in Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, TB Continuum of care. Information on the COPs is found under the project sections. Capacity strengthening at ECSA-HC for the KMME cluster enables policy-makers, researchers and implementers to make better evidence in policy and advocacy.

Production of policy briefs and other information product

The KMME cluster is also responsible for the production of Policy Briefs and other information products such as newsletters and brochures. Our policy briefs germinate from research findings, thus ensuring relevance in our region. Our newsletters are produced semi-annually to serve numerous purposes: dissemination of information, motivating performance and supplementation of ECSA-HC’s visibility.
