ECSA-HC and WAHO Sign MoU to Strengthen Continental Health Cooperation
As the 15ᵗʰ Best Practices Forum (BPF) and 31ˢᵗ DJCC Meeting came to a close in Port Louis, Mauritius, a landmark agreement was signed between the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) and the West African Health Organization (WAHO).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)—signed by Dr. Ntuli A. Kapologwe, Director General of ECSA-HC, and Dr. Melchior Athanase Aïssi, Director General of WAHO—establishes a robust framework for sustained collaboration between the two leading regional health bodies.
The MoU aims to:
- Promote cross-regional learning and best practice exchange
- Support joint programmes in HRH, PHC, NCDs, nutrition, and health governance
- Mobilize regional expertise for stronger health systems
- Facilitate collaborative research, evidence use, and health policy advocacy
- Enable coordinated resource mobilization and innovation in health
This MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening South–South collaboration and reinforces both institutions’ commitment to building equitable, resilient, and sustainable health systems across the African continent.
