Tanzania Food Fortification Alliance Convenes for the 39th Stakeholders’ Meeting in Arusha

The 39th Tanzania Food Fortification Alliance (TFFA) Meeting was successfully held from 22–23 July 2025 at the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) headquarters in Arusha. The two-day gathering brought together over 100 stakeholders from government, private sector, academia, and development partners to review progress, challenges, and plans toward improved food fortification in Tanzania.

Officiated by Dr. Ntuli Kapologwe, Director General of ECSA-HC, the meeting featured remarks from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Health, PORALG, MIT, and the Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC). Present were also partners including GAIN, WFP, UNICEF, NI, SANKU, AGRA, and various industry associations.

Key outcomes included:

  • Review of fortification implementation across large-scale and small-scale food industries.

  • Strategies for enforcement of the 2024 Food Fortification Regulations.

  • Presentation of data from TDHS 2022 and FORTIMAS on nutrition and biomarker analysis.

  • Agreement on formalizing TFFA and developing a six-month operational work plan.

  • Focused efforts to support MSMEs in aligning with fortification standards.

The meeting reiterated the need for inclusive multi-stakeholder collaboration to combat micronutrient deficiencies and promote nutrition security through fortified maize flour, wheat flour, edible oil, and iodized salt.
