The East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), in collaboration with the Self-Care Trailblazer Group (SCTG), invites you to the second webinar in the Self-Care Webinar Series, titled:

Policy & Governance for Self-Care: Country Experiences and Opportunities for Integration in ECSA-HC Member States

Self-care is increasingly being recognized as an important strategy for strengthening primary health care, improving access to essential health services, and empowering individuals, families, and communities to take charge of their health. This webinar will provide a platform for regional dialogue, knowledge exchange, and shared learning on how self-care can be integrated into national policies, SRHR programmes, and health systems across ECSA-HC Member States.

Objectives

The webinar aims to:

  1. Explore country-level experiences in integrating self-care interventions into national SRHR programmes, policies, and health systems.
  2. Identify opportunities and challenges for institutionalizing self-care in ECSA-HC countries.
  3. Foster collaboration and shared learning among policymakers, practitioners, and youth advocates across the region.

Speakers and Panelists

The session will be moderated by Dr. Andrew Silumesii, Manager, Family Health and Infectious Diseases Cluster, ECSA-HC.

The keynote setting-the-stage presentation will be delivered by Prof. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health, Uganda.

Panelists will include:

Ms. Karen Aura – Reproductive Health Specialist, Ministry of Health, Kenya
Dr. Roselline Achola – Public Health Specialist and Senior Technical Advisor for SRH and Self-Care, Ministry of Health, Uganda
Dr. Olusegun Samuel Oyeniyi – Director and Head, Reproductive Health Division, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Nigeria

Expected Outcomes

Participants will gain a better understanding of country experiences, innovations, and lessons learned in advancing self-care. The session is also expected to identify policy and programmatic opportunities for regional action and strengthen partnerships for scaling self-care interventions across ECSA-HC Member States.
