Traveling to Arusha, Tanzania
Flights into Arusha are primarily served through Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), located about 50 kilometers from the city center. Major airlines that operate flights to JRO include Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and Qatar Airways, providing connections primarily through Dar es Salaam and Nairobi.
Airport Shuttle Arrangements
For Honorable Ministers and officials from the Ministries of Health, special arrangements have been made to welcome you upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Please forward your travel itineraries and air ticket details to the Secretariat to facilitate logistical arrangements.
Should there be any changes to your arrival details, please notify the Secretariat via email at doid@ecsahc.org and copy to regsec@ecsahc.org well in advance of your departure.
Self-sponsored participants are advised to book a taxi in advance, as taxis are not always readily available at the airport.
VISA/Other Travel Arrangements
Citizens of most East African Community and SADC member states do not require a visa to enter Tanzania. However, travelers from other countries are recommended to check with the nearest Tanzanian Embassy or Consulate for the latest information.
Entry Requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months from the date of entry. Ensure your passport has a minimum of 2 blank pages for stamps upon entering or leaving Tanzania.
Travel and Public Health Screening Requirements
Arriving Travelers:
- Must complete a health surveillance form upon arrival.
- Will undergo temperature checks and other public health screening measures.
- Travelers showing symptoms will be directed to health facilities at the point of entry for further screening.
Departing Travelers:
- Must comply with the health requirements of the destination country.
- Travelers heading to countries with malaria risk are advised to take prophylaxis and follow preventive guidelines.
- Those traveling to regions requiring a yellow fever vaccination must carry a valid vaccination certificate.
Medical Information
First aid services will be available for participants during the conference. It is advisable to have comprehensive medical insurance to cover illnesses, accidents, and emergencies throughout your travel and conference participation.
Currency
The official currency of Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). Tanzania is part of the East African Community and while the shilling is the primary legal tender, US dollars are also widely accepted, especially in tourism-centric areas. Currency exchange services are available at banks and currency exchange bureaus. Visa and MasterCard are accepted in most hotels and can be used to withdraw cash from ATMs across the city. Carrying some local currency is recommended for smaller purchases and local transportation.
