Thanzi Health Economics and Modelling Workshop Kicks Off in Morogoro

The Thanzi Health Economics and Modelling Workshop has officially begun in Morogoro, Tanzania. This collaborative initiative between the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), and the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) brings together regional experts, policymakers, and technical professionals for a focused, hands-on training programme.
Purpose of the Workshop:
This 8-day programme aims to:

Build capacity among researchers, analysts, and policymakers in applying health economics and modelling tools for evidence-based decision-making;

Support institutional uptake and long-term sustainability of the Thanzi model within Tanzania;

Promote cross-institutional collaboration between MUHAS, NIMR, and ECSA-HC in policy-relevant research and modelling.
Workshop Structure:
The workshop is delivered in two interlinked parts:

Part 1: Policy-Focused Sessions
Introduces key concepts in health economics, value for money, and policy translation for decision-makers and technical stakeholders. -
Part 2: Technical Sessions
Provides practical training for analysts and ICT professionals on installing the Thanzi model, developing scenarios, running simulations, and interpreting results.
With participants drawn from MUHAS, NIMR, NHIF, and other institutions across the ECSA region, the workshop represents a major step forward in advancing the use of economic modelling in public health.
