Date: May 11, 2024
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in collaboration with the East, Central, and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), proudly announces the upcoming launch of the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Programme (HEPRR). This landmark event is scheduled for May 15, 2024, at the Agyle Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.
Funded by the World Bank Group with an impressive budget of 1 billion USD over seven years, HEPRR aims to significantly enhance health emergency preparedness, response capabilities, and resilience across East and Southern Africa. The programme is a crucial step forward in managing health emergencies in the region, leveraging a Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA).
The inaugural phase of HEPRR will focus on implementation in several key countries, including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sao Tome and Principe. The second phase will expand to include Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia.
The launch event will feature distinguished guests such as Hon. Prof. Yoswa Dambisya, Director General of ECSA-HC, H.E. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of IGAD, H.E. Keith E. Hansen, Country Director of the World Bank in Kenya, and will be officiated by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kenya, Hon. Susan Nakhumicha.
A highlight of the launch will be a High-level Ministerial Panel discussing “Health Emergencies on the Continent Post-COVID-19: Lessons, Priority Actions, and Preparations for the Next Pandemic.” This panel will provide invaluable insights from Ministers of Health from the participating countries.
