50th Anniversary Celebration of ECSA-HC: A Milestone of Regional Health and Cooperation
As we step into 2024, the East Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) is elated to celebrate its 50th anniversary. This milestone not only symbolizes a half-century of collaboration with our core member states – Kenya, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Mauritius, the United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – but also reflects our expansive efforts in health advocacy and service beyond these borders. Over the years, ECSA-HC’s endeavors have reached various other African nations, contributing significantly to the advancement of health care standards and services across a wider region.
Since 1974, ECSA-HC has journeyed alongside these nations, striving to improve health standards and services across East, Central, and Southern Africa. Our collective efforts over these five decades have been instrumental in fostering regional cooperation, enhancing health policy development, and advocating for the fundamental human right to health.
This year’s celebration is a tribute to the solidarity and commitment of our member states. Their collaboration has been the cornerstone of our achievements and the catalyst for our initiatives in health advocacy, research, and capacity building.
As we mark this milestone, we invite not only our member states but also our partners, health professionals, and the communities we serve to join us in this commemoration. Your support and collaboration have been vital in our journey, and we eagerly anticipate celebrating this milestone with you.
We will be sharing details of our anniversary events and activities on this platform. We look forward to a year of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to advancing health care in our region.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Prof Yoswa Dambisya
Director General, ECSA-HC
